The Whole Being Greater than the Sum of its Parts

My friend who was my business partner use to say to me, "Why are you mad at me for? I could've done so much worse, I could've stolen or ran away". That got me thinking, are people good just because they're absent bad?

Imagine a meadow. There's a cow, fat dumb thing which at times can be quite a sweet creature. There's the grass, most of it green with some yellow patches. There's the trees,  luscious and green with a big strong trunk. There's the sky, blue bright and beautiful.

Now Imagine the whole meadow as one big cohesive picture. The scene where the grass and shrubbery is thrumming with life, where cows are just left to pasture, where the green of the grown brings out the blue of the sky so much more, and the sun, the source of life rising and setting, giving a pinkish hue that almost looks like the sky is dancing behind those clouds, and what a beautiful sight that is.

I think that is what they mean by the the whole is greater than the sum of its parts

When it comes to people however, sometimes the whole is less than the sum of its parts. I've met some really outstanding people that just rub you off the wrong way, you end up feeling irked or sometimes disgusted by the end of the interaction. However, I've also met some unassuming people who end up being the most wonderful people you'll ever meet.

People say 'don't just a book by its cover'. At the same time, the superficial layers are also part of the person and I don't think that should be discounted. The world doesn't do it, why should we? Hence it'd be nice to give each part of a person equal standing. Do we then add the parts all up as though its judgement day itself and see if the the merits make up for the deficits?

I think not, instead of looking at it as a sum of its parts, maybe let's try to look at the whole. How do I make people feel after an interaction with me. How do people generally think of me? Its true that its not important what other people think, especially when you're an innovator or even slightly different but I guess there comes a point when everyone is feeling (not merely saying) the same thing, you gonna ask yourself, "WTF is wrong with me that everyone feels the same way?".

I don't know about you, yea you reading my secret blog. I hope you're one of those people who makes others feel better around you and if you don't, then perhaps consider asking someone you trust what you can change about yourself.

If you're one of those people that people love to be around, thank you for being you!

Journaling My Journey as a Doctor

I'm a week away from starting my dream job. It took me longer than most to get here, despite my "troubled childhood", my distractions, or my incompetence, I've finally made it to this point. I'm a doctor, junior trainee, houseman, first year resident, bottom of the food chain but a doctor nontheless.

As i'm preparing myself to face this new chapter of my life. I've decided to journal the process, will I ever comeback and read my old entries in the future? I guess we'll have to find out. Why go through the process of journaling?

Journaling gives you accountability, I'm hoping that by going back and referring to old cases or incidents which i've encountered and get a somewhat more accurate recollection of events. So often we lie to ourselves what how we spent out time or what mistakes we've done or what we've achieved. I'm hoping this overcomes that

Journaling gives you clarity, i have to find time and a space to sit down everyday or every week(we'll see) and review the day/week and I hope this will give me exponential growth.

Journaling is therapeutic, or so I'm told. I'm hoping this would be my outlet of rage and frustration if it ever builds up too much. Probably then I'd complain less if I ever do any complaining at all.
